WordPress or a managed fleet website: which suits a hire operator?

WordPress is the most flexible option here and a good choice when you have a developer or agency maintaining it. For a fleet or hire business without that person, the weight of WordPress is the upkeep: hosting, plugin and theme updates, security and speed all need an owner. A managed website gives you the pages a fleet buyer needs, with hosting, updates and a speed guarantee included in one monthly fee.

02 The honest view

Why WordPress sites for hire businesses often slow down

A fleet site on WordPress usually grows by plugin: one for the booking form, one for maps, one for SEO, one for a slider on the home page, one for security. Each adds code to every page, and each needs updating. None of that is a flaw in WordPress, which is excellent software, but it is why speed and security on WordPress depend on someone owning the upkeep week after week.

03 For a fleet or hire business

What you trade by not using WordPress

You give up the plugin ecosystem and the ability to log in and change any page yourself at midnight. In return, the site is custom coded with almost no JavaScript, there is no admin panel or plugin library to attack, and every change goes through a revision that we make in working days. For a desk that never logs into its website anyway, the trade usually favors the managed site.

04 Which is right for you

When should a fleet business choose WordPress instead?

Honestly, sometimes. The list on the left is where the alternative genuinely fits better; the list on the right is where a managed fleet site does.

WordPress is the better fit when

  • You have an in-house developer or a retained agency who maintains WordPress properly.
  • You need a specific plugin, such as a complex booking or rental management integration, that only exists for WordPress.
  • Your team wants to edit and publish content directly, every day.

A managed FleetWebStudio site wins when

  • Nobody owns plugin updates, backups and security today.
  • You want a written 90+ PageSpeed guarantee rather than a speed project.
  • You want hosting, domain, updates and articles in one monthly fee with nothing itemised.
  • You want depot and vehicle class pages built and kept current for you.

05 Switching or combining

Moving from WordPress without losing what ranks

We review your WordPress site during onboarding, carry across the vehicle classes, depot pages, terms and posts worth keeping, and map every old URL to its new page with a permanent redirect. If a WordPress page ranks well today, we keep its topic and address in mind rather than starting over. Your WordPress hosting can be cancelled once the new site is live and checked.

07 From operators who switched

What switching looked like for other fleets

  • Our old site listed rates from two years ago because nobody had time to touch it. Now we send the change and it is live that week, and the pages open straight away on a phone in the yard.

  • Site managers could never tell which depot served their project. Now each region has a page listing what we deliver there, and new plant classes go live as a revision rather than a new quote from a developer.

WordPress vs FleetWebStudio: questions

Is WordPress bad for a fleet or hire website?

No. WordPress is capable and widely used. The question is who maintains it. With a developer or agency keeping plugins, themes, security and speed in order, it works well. Without one, it tends to slow down and fall behind, which is the problem a managed site removes.

Can you move our WordPress posts and pages across?

Yes. We carry across the content that is still accurate, restructure it into vehicle class and depot pages where that helps, and set up permanent redirects from every old URL worth keeping.

Will we lose our Google rankings leaving WordPress?

Proper redirects and a faster, better-structured site protect rankings far more often than they harm them. We cannot guarantee an outcome we do not control, but the migration includes redirect mapping as standard and we watch indexing after launch.

Can we still log in and edit pages ourselves?

No, and that is deliberate. You send changes through the client portal or by email, and they are live within 2 to 5 working days. 5 revisions a month are included, each of any size.

Is WordPress cheaper?

The software is free, but hosting, premium themes and plugins, security and developer time are paid separately and add up differently for every business. A managed plan puts the site, hosting, domain, updates and articles into one monthly fee so the total is known in advance.

What about WordPress booking and rental plugins?

If your hire business depends on a WordPress-only rental management plugin, WordPress may be the better fit. If bookings run in your own system or CRM, we route enquiries into it by API, Zapier or Make instead.

Is a custom-coded site more secure than WordPress?

A site with no admin panel, no database exposed to the public and no plugin library has far fewer things to attack. A well-maintained WordPress site can also be secure; the difference is how much maintenance security depends on.

Do we own the site if we leave?

Your domain and your content are yours, and we export your content and articles within 14 days of cancellation. The code we write is licensed to you while the plan is active. With WordPress you hold the files yourself, which is one of its genuine advantages.
